Possessing the Land of Mountains and Valleys

Happy New Year!

 “The land you are…to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.  It is a land of the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.”  Deuteronomy 11:11-12.

Today we stand at the threshold of the unknown.  Before us lies a new year, and we are going forward to take possession of it.  Who knows what we will find?  What new experiences or changes will come our way?  What new needs will arise?  In spite of the uncertainty before us, we have a cheerful and comforting message from our heavenly Father:  “The LORD your God cares for (it); the eyes of the LORD…are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.”  (Streams in the Desert by Cowman)

He leads us on by paths we did not know;
Upward He leads us, though our steps be slow,
Though oft we faint and falter on the way,
Though storms and darness oft obscure the day;
Yet when the clouds are gone,
We know He leads us on.
He leads us on through all the unquiet years;
Past all our dreamland hopes, and doubts, and fears,
He guides our steps, through all the tangled maze
Of losses, sorrows, and o’er clouded days;
We know His will is done;
And still He leads us on.
(Nicholaus Ludwig Zinzendorf)

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask, or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.  Amen.”

Ephesians 3:20-21

  1. What perfect scripture verses for the beginning of the year! And I love the poem. So true. Is the photo from Pickwick?

    Been lax on reading your blog but am determined to catch up. Been entertaining here. Served a Peruvian meal last night to a friend and her husband and then shared our slideshow of our SA adventure. It was great to review the trip once more. . We hope to find new renters for the house we are currently working on. Today we got the carpets cleaned so tomorrow we can put out the “For Rent” sign. I was impressed with your selections in this blog also.

    Love. Ruth
